Exchange Rates at a Glance

A currency exchange rate is for a currency pair. E.g. EURUSD. The first currency is the base and the second is the counter (or quote) currency. The exchange rate is how much one unit of base costs in the quote currency when buying, or. how much you get in the quote when selling one unit of the base currency. A currency exchange rate has both a bid and ask price. The bid price is the amount obtained in the quote currency when selling one unit of the base. The ask price is what you pay in the quote currency to get one unit of the base.
